Maroubra Specialist Disability Accommodation Opens!

Maroubra Specialist Disability Accommodation Opens!

September 13, 2022

Emotions were high when Richard and Lucas received the keys to their new home.

Sunnyfield’s first Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) service has opened in Maroubra. The purpose-built home is the first of a series of architecturally designed SDA homes being built across Sydney and Greater NSW in partnership with Edenbridge Living. The residents attended a welcome party ahead of their move-in date where they met and mingled with their new housemates with their families.

Moving out of home is always an emotional experience and for Richard and Lucas (pictured), receiving the keys to their new home was the moment they had been dreaming of. Their personal key to their own home represents a big step on their road to independence and naturally they were overcome with joy.

After receiving their keys, the boys decided they wanted to order pizza for dinner from their new local pizzeria. The pair tested out their new keys when returning from collecting their dinner and settled in to watch a game of footy. Not a bad way to spend their first night in their new home.

What is an SDA Home?

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) are innovative homes specially built for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. The homes are designed to support people with disability to live a more independent lifestyle while accessing high-quality support from their home. SDA housing is accessible to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants that have SDA funding in their NDIS plan.
